What does a smart plug do?

So what are Hihome's smart plugs? They are plugs that look like travel adapters: you plug a device into the smart plug and then plug the smart plug into the socket. And so you can turn your existing devices into smart devices.

Smart plugs connect via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth to an app on your smartphone, so you can determine which device is connected to that plug without the need for a smart hub.

How to use a smart plug

Once connected to a device, smart plugs allow users to create "scenes". Scenes are small IFTTT programs that can adjust your lighting, coffee maker, washing machine, and other devices based on the time of day, the temperature, or anything else that your smartphone measures. You will not sacrifice outlets by using smart plugs and there are different plug designs available to meet different space requirements.

Advantages of smart plugs

Common applications for smart plugs include energy monitoring and easy device control, whether or not together with a Google home or Amazon Alexa.
